🇺🇸 Learn 25 New English Words: iPhone Screenshots #51

Well, I was just lounging there on my couch, reading yet another book, minding my own business, when suddenly… a thought hit me.

I heard the story and it’s cool. The screenshots, please 🙂

Since I read lots of articles and books in English on my phone, while I’m at it why not take screenshots of my dictionary lookups, namely, definitions of isolated words – no constructions (for those you should refer to “Seeking out Grammar & Vocabulary“)  – and Google Images of instances where plain definitions do not suffice (those cunning yet proud nouns) and then share them with you?

Well, that’s exactly what I did with the screenshots of 25 words below.

The gallery generates 25 screenshots in a random order. Yes, every time you reload this page, the gallery will randomly rearrange itself. Pretty cool, huh?

It’s a good way for you to check and expand your vocabulary, just as it is a good way for me to keep track of my newly-met English words in addition to the Anki way.

Well, enough words, and let’s get down to the… words?

Well, that’s it for today folks! Thanks for taking your time reading this article.

The next batch of 25 words is just around the corner.

Don’t be shy and leave ’em thoughts in the comments section below.

    1. Them words are not as arbitrary as they would like to come across.

Given that these days I’m heavily focused on French day in day out like there’s no tomorrow, I figured it wouldn’t be that bad of an idea to keep track of, as you had aptly pointed out above, the words I happened to stumble upon while indulging myself in sparse English reading sessions I all to rarely treat myself to, as it were.

The big idea behind the whole ordeal is that in order for me to come across and single out new words I had to taught myself or rather discipline myself to… actually look up new words in dictionaries. Being attentive and humble, so to say. Yes, inflated self-confidence coupled with unjustified cockiness can take you only so far, which is not exactly that far, sadly enough. The Bible nicely puts that as “Pride comes before a fall”.

In doing such screenshots and working through them later on, I am honing the virtue of being humble, to put it nicely. Conversely, by not putting it so nicely, it comes down to cutting myself down to size big time. Some jerk I am… I should know 🙂 Good medicine tastes bitter. Yikes.

Well, then again, words alone are not as remotely interesting as tricky constructions I chance to encounter here and there.

      1. No bait… just wanted to point out that nobody talks like that… on the other hand, you are not aiming for effective communication, it’s fine… sorry, the teacher in me refused to shut the f**** up:))
